Being the first record player designed to play the 7-inch 45 rpm vinyl record, this single-speed machine represents an important step in the development of domestic audio equipment.

Motivated by Columbia's successful introduction of the 33⅓ rpm long-playing (LP) record, RCA developed the 7-inch 45 rpm disc as a competing vinyl format in 1948. RCA's new format preserved the five-minute playing time of the 10-inch 78 rpm record and their new disc proved a considerable and long-standing success as a carrier of short popular music works. Lengthy recordings had to span multiple discs which were packaged and sold in an 'album'. To facilitate the playing of these longer recordings, the machine was equipped with an autochanger device capable of playing up to ten discs in succession automatically.

Size (mm): W 270 x H 225 x D 222
